White House: Tuesday’s GOP wins not about Obama

The White House says that Republican wins in two governors’ races were not referendums on the president.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters Wednesday that voters went to the polls in Virginia and New Jersey to work through “very local issues that didn’t involve the president.” The presidential spokesman said voters were concerned about the economy. He said “I don’t think the president needed an election or an exit poll to come to that conclusion.”

By contrast, Gibbs acknowledged that the 2010 midterm congressional elections will be more about the Obama agenda.

Republicans turned aside Democratic candidates in both states, raising questions about the limits of the president’s influence on his party’s base of support and on the moderate lawmakers he needs to advance his legislative priorities.

Gibbs noted that Democrats did win two special elections for congressional seats, in California and New York.

Gibbs said Obama telephoned both Democratic losers, incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine in New Jersey and candidate Creigh Deeds in Virginia, Tuesday night. But Gibbs said Obama has not yet called the two GOP gubernatorial winners because he wanted to let them celebrate with family and supporters.

Corzine_Christie_HoneymoonersWell at any rate it is over for Corzine because the fat guy did sing.

I like how it has been downplayed by Dems. The real problem for Obama is that he was put over the top in 2008 by the cult of personality vote. People who don’t really care about what is going on and informed by drive by reports and listening to a lot of lies. Reality is setting in on other voters and cult of personality voters only show up once for the most part. It’s trouble….

ManBear, he was put over the top by gerrymandering votes. Same, thing ultimately, though. Potay-to, potah-to …

The Dems are gonna have to find out the hard way that the scorched-earth policy they preacticed against members of their own party during the primaries is biting them on the ass. I need to look up the recipe for schadenfreude pie again. This is gonna be gooooooooood …

There’s a German saying someplace, “If you won’t hear, you gotta feel.” Don’t want to listen to advice? Fine — you’ll wish you had!

Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving party.

I know that this is unrelated, but it frightens me that one day these kids will vote, and vote as many people did in 2008: no facts and all emotion.

It goes without saying that when you fleece the electorate there will come a time when the electorate finally strikes back. This is what happened to Corzine, since New Jersey is one of the most highly taxed states.

The Obots are trying to put a good spin on it, but really, when you see how many Republicans and Independents won yesterday, well….

  5. Peter Says:

Holly, relax. By the time those kids are old enough to vote they will have already rebelled against that nonsense.

  6. joanelle Says:

As a New Jerseyan I agree, Aussie, but the fact that Corzine disenfranchised the NJ voters by turning over our delegates to O sealed his fate last year.

  7. So this was not about Obama..? Um, yeah, right… Keep on thinking that way.

These elections were kind of funny, if you aren’t all wrapped up in party ideology. NY-23 cracked me up. D’s chose a Dino, only recently a Dem, a man so enlightened when asked if he supported the Ledbetter act he said he wasn’t familiar with the legislation. How can he not be familiar with the legislation???! It was the overly hyped Dem token nod to women’s rights, with press releases 24/7!

Dede, the R who dropped out was a Rino, more to the left then the Dino, both of whom really have no idea where they stand on issues at all. The whole race just goes to show you that labels are really meaningless. At the end of the day the people won a ….politician. Oh joy. I’d rather win a Big mac or a free milkshake or something.

So progressives dance in the streets because they got their anti public option Dem in, Maine repealed gay marriage, and Dems in congress work towards banning abortion from the health care bill while trying to get prayer covered. Meanwhile the rest of us are supposed to be declaring each other the enemy based on liberal/conservative identity.

The videos bring up a question people should have asked long ago. Can we have a free society with a state run education system?

Where were all those Obamabots born? Why did he dominate the extemely young age groups and where did were the totalitarian practices mildly known as “political correctness” start?
